SPRING CLEANING

Spring is right around the corner, and recently I had a great opportunity to clean out my closets. When it was all said and done, the process of decluttering and organizing my home gave me great joy and a feeling of accomplishment.

This enormous task can be overwhelming, to say the least. So, I started this project with a plan. One room at a time…not the whole house. I began with the closet of that room. I pulled out everything and made piles: one pile to keep, one to toss, and one to give away.

The declutter part was done, and I continued to work on organizing the “keep” pile. That’s the fun stage for me. I got plastic containers and baskets to put similar items in, and in no time that step was complete.

The last step was to Spring clean my home. Okay, cleaning is NOT my favorite part! Washing windows and cleaning baseboards do not bring me joy. Are you serious right now? Maybe I can continue that part next weekend…or perhaps the next. Could I convince my husband to help me and get the job done quicker?

Are you ready to declutter, organize and Spring clean your home? What obstacles are in your way? Can you get someone to take the kids out for a few hours so you can get their rooms done first? Can you convince the kids to help you clean out their room? That could be an excellent opportunity for them to get involved in giving their toys to another child who may not have many toys.

I took this concept one step further with my relationship with God. I had to determine what needed to be decluttered, organized and cleaned in my life. The tough questions of what I need to keep, throw out and give away shocked my heart, but I began that process. I encourage you to inspect your heart and see what the Lord is asking you to clean out.

You don’t have to do this alone. Whether you’re Spring cleaning your home or heart, start with a plan, and begin the process step by step. I know you can accomplish anything you set your mind to do. Let’s Spring clean together!

Psalm 51:10

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
