It's a New Day

Have you ever just wanted to start over? I’ve done projects in the past where the results weren’t what I intended them to be and I just wanted to start over. Have you ever thought about decisions you’ve made and realized they were the wrong decisions? Do you want a do-over and to start again with a new day?

I have great news! We can have do-overs and new days when we come to the Lord with a heart of repentance. Do you know the parable of the lost son found in Luke chapter 15:11-32? I encourage you to read this portion of scripture. A father who had two sons divided his estate amongst them. It wasn’t long after that when the younger son asked for his portion, decided he could handle life on his own and left his father’s house. He ended up wasting his inheritance with sinful living. Then, a severe famine arose in the land, which caused the son to be hungry and in need of a job.

This son ended up working in the fields feeding pigs. He even took some of the pig food to feed himself. I would say that he was at the ‘end of his rope’ having to eat with the pigs. At that time, this son decided he needed a do-over. I’m sure he wished that he had done things differently and that he never left his father’s house.

So, he gathered himself with humility and repentance and journeyed back to his father’s house. I can only imagine the conversations he had in his head of what he would tell everyone when he arrived. Would they accept him back? Would they look down on him because he spent all that was given to him? Would his father love him again?

Scripture tells us that his father saw the son “a long way off” from his house. It seems to me that his father had been waiting and watching for his son’s return, probably since the day he left. The father ran to his son, hugged and kissed him and brought him back to his house for a jubilant celebration. It was a new day. A day filled with joy. His father had the best food prepared, and put the best robe on his son and a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet.

What a great story! Yes, we can have a new day with the Lord. There’s always a new day for those who come to the Lord with a heart of repentance and a willingness to serve Him again. Don’t let your thoughts talk you into staying away from your Father’s house. Return to His presence and seek His love, joy, and peace! Celebrate this New Year with a new day in Christ!

Luke 15:22-24 The father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. Bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again. He was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
