Find Your Solitude

I got home from a busy day at work and sat down on the couch. Finally! The day was over. I turned my computer on to check social media and read a few emails when my husband walked in the door and immediately started talking about his stressful day. The dogs began to bark ferociously at the neighbor’s garbage lid that slammed shut, and before I knew it, my quiet alone time was over.

So many times our day begins with an anxiousness to wake up and start the day. Even the solitude of the nights seemed to be broken up by the children’s whining, crying or sickness. Sound familiar?

Jesus knew and practiced the discipline of solitude. He was purposeful about His solitude. Before making important decisions, Jesus spent time alone (Luke 6:12; Mark 1:35). After some of His miracles, He found solitude (Matthew 14:23; Luke 5:16).

One of the greatest things you can do for your soul is to find solitude. Where in your schedule will you carve out solitude this week? Is it time you pressed the pause button in life? Just a few minutes each day can help you center your heart and mind on what God has for you. Press pause and find some calm in the chaos. Take a few moments today to be still in the Lord’s presence.
