DESPERATE FOR HELP

August 28, 2020

Do you ever get to the point of being desperate for help, but are too prideful to ask?  Man, I’ve been there…plenty of times.  However, my experience has told me that without some kind of help, my worse-case scenario stayed that way, and in some situations got worse.  The answer to my help has always been Jesus, as long as I let go of my pride and ask for His help.

Think for a moment of a time when things weren’t great like cancer, death of a family member or friend, or surgery.  How did you handle it?  Did you need help to get through the darkness of your situation?

Now think of today.  If things are great, are you as desperate for guidance and help from God as you were when you went through something traumatic?

I remember a woman that I mentored a few years ago.  She was going through an addiction program not once, but three times.  The first time she went through the program, it lasted almost ten months.  The second time was barely three months, and then started the program again for the third time.  Each time she entered the program, she had been desperate for Jesus to intervene, but as soon as she was doing better, she left.  She wanted out and thought that her life could be handled on her own, but soon found out that she needed help yet once again.

God will always be with you, and is waiting for you to ask for His help.  He will rescue you from your problems.  Put aside your pride, and allow Him to help you.  Sometimes we just cannot handle life on our own.

Daniel was desperate for God every day – good and bad.  He made God his daily priority.  He proved himself to the king.  He had great ability and was faithful and honest.  The other governors planned to destroy Daniel, but Daniel still leaned on God’s promises and continued to pray and put God first.  Because Daniel would not stop praying to God, he was thrown in the lion’s den.  However, he didn’t freak out.  He knew that God was with him and no matter what happened, Daniel trusted in the Lord, and knew he would be alright.

Be desperate for God on the days that are not heavy with trials.  Keep praying on those good days, and when the bad times hit, you’ll have a foundation like Daniel experienced.  You’ll know beyond the shadow of a doubt, that God is with you and will be your help.

Daniel 6:10

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem.  Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God just as he had done before.
