The Master Weaver

January 17, 2019

Have you ever been to a performance where you sat in your seat waiting for the curtains to open and you were still waiting ten minutes after the performance was to start?  How frustrating, right?  I’ve been there.  I kept looking at my watch wondering when it was going to start.  How much longer did I have to sit there before the curtains were drawn?  I was anticipating the big moment.  I’d waited so patiently all night, and then finally it happened.  The curtains were drawn and I got to experience the amazing performance I came to see.

What I didn’t realize was how much activity was going on behind the curtains before they opened.  The people involved were so busy getting everything placed in a specific order that it took a little longer than what was expected.  The curtains could not be opened until everything was in its place.  And at that point, the curtains were drawn, and the magical evening began.

I’ve felt this way in my personal life too.  I know that God is preparing great things for me, but sometimes I’ve been a bit impatient.  Maybe even a bit irritable.  But God knows when to open the curtains and reveal His master plan to me, and it always comes at the exact time He chooses.

There’s a poem that has been around for years and years, yet it fits so beautifully with my life woven by God, Master Weaver.  My mother did cross-stitch for years, and I know the time it takes to create a simple wall hanging.  Imagine the intricacies of this body we live in, the skin, the eyes, one’s creative side, or our emotional makeup, and so much more …

I pray that I remain patient and hopeful as the LORD, my God, weaves the woof over and under the warps.   The author of this beautiful poem is unknown, but I wanted to share it with you and pray it encourages you.

The Plan of The Master Weaver

My life is but a weaving

Between the Lord and me,

I may not choose the colors,

He knows what they should be;

For He can view the pattern

Upon the upper side

While I can see it only

On this, the under side.

Sometimes He weaveth sorrow,

Which seemeth strange to me;

But I will trust His judgment,

And work on faithfully;

‘Tis He who fills the shuttle,

And He knows what is best,

So I shall weave in earnest,

Leaving to Him the rest.

Not till the loom is silent

And the shuttles cease to fly

Shall God unroll the canvas

And explain the reason why–

The Dark threads are as needed

In the Weaver’s skillful hand

As the threads of gold and silver

In the pattern He has planned.

Trust in the Lord’s judgment and lean on Him for His ways are higher than ours.  Know that once the tapestry is complete, it will be a glorious piece of art.  You will be that beautiful piece of art that He has created.  Remember that the backside of a tapestry looks confusing and quite frankly, a mess.  But as you turn it over you see how God has put together something wonderful and beautiful.

LORD, thank You for weaving me into the girl that I was, the young woman I have been, the woman that I am today, and the one I shall be in the remainder of my days here on earth.  As You complete this woven woman, LORD, make me complete in You.  Amen.

Psalm 139:13-17

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.  How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!  How vast is the sum of them!
