ABOUT JAN

After my son, Brandon, passed away unexpectedly at the age of nineteen, I was consistently looking for something or someone to give me a glimmer of encouragement. People were speechless and didn’t know how to approach me.  Do they bring up my son’s name?  Do they ignore the fact that I just lost my only child?  What do they say to me now?  So in every effort to do something, most people did nothing.

Now it’s been several years since my son was taken from me, and I find myself asking God to lead me to those that need true encouragement.  People who have been left desolate, or who have lost a loved one are near and dear to my heart.  Losing a child is the most devastating thing that I’ve been through, yet I can still give God my praise because He is the One who loves me the most, and my existence solely depends on Him.

Be-IN-Couraged is in many ways dedicated to my son Brandon.  It is a place of joy and laughter as well as a place of tears and love.  I am forever thinking of my Brandon in almost everything I do.  He is a part of my sorrow and remembering his smile and laughter brings me great joy.  As a single mom early in my motherhood years, I acknowledge and connect with other single moms who are doing the best they can and still struggle a bit.  To bring encouragement to mothers is something I thrive and enjoy.  There’s nothing like a toddler running around me and pulling my shirt to get my attention.  The Lord loves the little children, and I do too!

My blogs and video blogs reflect my personal experiences and adventures over the years, and I pray they touch the hearts of many.  My goal is to keep it real and organic.  Nothing fake or too serious!

My husband, Tim, and I have two Yorkies who are a part of our family and travel everywhere with us.  I’m also a fan of football, NASCAR, and soccer, and enjoy hiking, kayaking, biking, and snowshoeing.  I need that fresh air to keep me young – lol!
